Audioweb

Biography

Formed in early 1995 with Sugar on vocals, Robin File on guitar, Sean McCann on bass and Maxi on drums, Audioweb has shaken so many preconceptions as to what exactly three white guys and one black singer should sound like. Like Heinz, they come in 57 varieties. They've been variously described as "Joy Division boxing with Shabba Ranks", "Happy Mondays messing with Junior Murvin and Hendrix". A four-piece, they mix heavy dub, spiralling guitar and soul melodies. They take their truly original dub/rock/ragga roots sound into pioneering, unchartered territory. Though as Sugar astutley points out, "you're not going to do something without a rhythm or a groove if you come from Manchester'.

Being a divinely gifted singer makes Sugar's silky tones sweetly offering sardonic accounts's of street life ,even more incongruous.Audioweb's first single, the critically acclaimed "Sleeper" released Oct' 95 and which can now be heard introducing channel 4's NBA Basketball series- gained them a Radio One playlist, as well as a priviledged appearance on Jools Holland's annual Hootenay.

Near constant touring, supporting the likes of Dreadzone and Dubstar, followed by their own headline tour earlier this year, saw Audioweb become one of the most hottly tipped bands around. Their second single, the uncompromising "Yeah" was complimented with mixes by Monkey Mafia and Danny Saber. The accompanying video, once again directed by the innovative Jon Klein, porayed on all too real fight in a club.
