Insurance Post Sept 11 - by Paul Kavanagh - President IBA and Group Manager, McCarthy Insurance Group
What began as the most atrocious act of terrorism ever witnessed on September 11th last, has now manifested into the most serious situation ever to hit the world Insurance Markets. Across the globe, policyholders are facing huge increases in premia. Numerous Insurance companies have failed (gone bust). Many more have pulled out of certain classes of business such as Motor, Liability, Commercial and Medical.

Are you being Served? - by Declan Goggins, Goggins Insurances
Service from the Insurance Industry has been a big issue for many years and individual Brokers will get little comfort from the results of the recent IBA Service Excellence Report. A satisfactory rating of 54% in the non-life area clearly shows that Insurance Companies have a lot of work to do to reach what Brokers consider to be a satisfactory level. With little or no improvement in recent years, it would seem as if companies are acquiescing and happy to go along with the present situation - which is most frustrating. However, we live in hope.
The IBA Survey is wide-ranging but perhaps in future, a section should be included seeking Brokers views on their attitude to Direct Writers and the practice of Insurance Companies involved in dual pricing. I would venture to suggest that a zero rate would be "earned".
